Kenny Loggins Picture
Singer, songwriter, and guitarist Kenny Loggins was born in Everett, WA, and moved to Los Angeles in his teens. He got a job as a staff writer and wrote four songs used on a Nitty Gritty Dirt Band album in 1970, among them the hit "House at Pooh Corner." This brought him to the attention of former Poco member Jim Messina, now a staff producer at CBS, who intended to produce Loggins' debut album. The two ended up in a duo, however, and Loggins & Messina made a series of successful albums during the '70s. Loggins & Messina broke up in 1976, and Loggins went on to solo stardom with such million-selling albums as Celebrate Me Home, Nightwatch (which included the hit "Whenever I Call You Friend"), and Keep the Fire, all in the cheerful, sensitive style he had displayed in Loggins & Messina. Loggins also became known as the king of the movie soundtrack song, scoring Top Ten hits with "I'm Alright" (from Caddyshack), "Footloose" (from Footloose), "Danger Zone" (from Top Gun), and "Nobody's Fool" (from Caddyshack II).

Keep The Fire Lyrics

Kenny Loggins

Theres a river in
Evening ember glow
And youre wishing you could see
How far it flows
Rolling on to an endless sea
Youd be well on your way
If you could only set sail.
But dreams can drift away
And sails can fill with doubt
Wheres your vision
If the embers flicker out?
Dont let it slip from view
The horizons are waiting
Your river is fading
(chorus)
So keep the fire burning tonight
See just what comes into sight
Dont take forever
Take it through the night
And believe the sun
Will rise with the dawn
Thats all you need to go on
But for tonight
Just keep the fire burning bright
I will never need to ask
What have I done?
Comes a moment when its clear
Theres only one.
Oh, whatever you need of me
Ive made up my mind
Ill give you more than youve asked for
And there are those who can foresee
Where we will go
All the future...
I dont really want to know
Only that youll be here with me.
While the embers still glow
Well be safe till tomorrow.
